Labradoodle Puppies - Are They Good Pets?

Labradoodles are one of the most popular crossbreeds around today. You can see them at the dog shows where they can be part of the winning families and sometimes ones that are in the running for Best In Show. So which do better, a labradoodle or another type of mixed dog?

The short answer to that question is labradoodle puppies are good pets and are great dogs for training. You need to be aware of the differences between the three varieties of labradoodle or labradoodle dogs.

Most labradoodle breeders will kind of standardize the whole line of dogs. They will keep the same quality standards over time for these dogs. They will look at what they believe the overall health and qualities of these labradoodles. They care a lot about the puppy and what he will become as he grows up to be a full grown dog.

Many of the actual breeders are not concerned about the individual characteristics of their particular labradoodle. They are more concerned about their own particular version of the dog. That is why you will often see several different colors of labradoodle on a single litter. Sometimes as many as five different colors.

There are several things that are important to consider when you are thinking about getting a labradoodle. One is the type of coat that your puppy will have as he grows into adulthood. Is your puppy a short hair or long hair dog? Short hair dogs are good with a quick brushing every week or so and they do not shed a lot. Long hair dogs need to be brushed twice a week or may need to be shaved so they can be brushed.

Another thing to consider when you are thinking about getting a labradoodle is whether or not you want your pet to be strictly a pet or do you want to include him in your family?

If you want to keep your labradoodle as a pet you will need to have him trimmed at least once a month. That is why short hair dogs are recommended. If you want your labradoodle to not be strictly a pet you will still want him to have a short and smooth coat. But you will have to be careful. Labradoodles do shed. They shed a lot. On a daily basis I have to brush my labradoodle in order to keep the shedding at a minimum. If it is not a constant thing then it is not a problem.

Another thing to consider when you are thinking about getting a labradoodle is whether or not you have children. Unless your children are older then you will want to have them carefully consider whether or not they are able to care for a pet. I don't think any child, especially a toddler, can be expected to be able to care for a dog 24 hours a day. You will have to give them time to play with him and feed him so that he does not become unhealthy. And even then there may be accidents. Household products can be a problem for your labradoodle. If you have kids they must be taught not to play with the pet's feet or tail. You don't want your labradoodle accidentally getting wounds.

If you have a dog at home that isn't a labradoodle then you will need to have those same precautions taken care of as well. Labradoodles do have arguments for their users. That doesn't mean they are bad dogs however it is possible that some of them could become aggressive if not properly watched. You can't expect all labradoodles to be the same neither can you predict which ones will become which. If you have one of the specific types of labradoodle that is known for having the Affenpinschers syndrome then you and I may have more success in raising them alone than others. That doesn't mean everyone will like them.

The bottom line is that labradoodles make great pets and can take part in many family activities. The choices you make when you are choosing the breeder of your labradoodle can determine whether or not they will truly be part of your family.
